After 2 exciting and high-class days, the Belgian team from RSC Anderlecht emerged as a more than worthy tournament champion with a final victory against SK Rapid Vienna.
With perfect conditions, great weather, and two excellent pitches, the numerous spectators were treated to tension from the very first game regarding the qualification for the intermediate phase, as only the top two teams from the 4 preliminary round groups made their way into the top 8, where the final spots were determined in the intermediate round.
After an exciting preliminary phase 1, 8 teams qualified for the upper half to compete for the tournament victory.
Of the 8 teams, 4 were from Austria and 4 were international representatives. The intermediate round was marked from the outset by the battle for the four coveted semi-final spots. After an intense group stage, the 4 semi-finalists emerged â RSC Anderlecht, SK Rapid Vienna, Flyeralarm Admira, and Grasshoppers Zurich. In the thrilling semi-finals, RSC Anderlecht defeated Grasshoppers in a penalty shootout. In the second semi-final, Rapid Vienna triumphed in the Austrian duel against Admira, also in a penalty shootout.
Afterwards, the placement matches were scheduled with the grand final as a fitting conclusion. Before a full grandstand, the Belgian traditional club once again proved to be the better team in this game and deservedly prevailed 2-1 against SK Rapid Vienna, securing the inaugural victory in its first participation. The winner’s trophy was presented to RSC Anderlecht by BMI Mag. Gerhard Karner during the grand award ceremony.
The 27th edition of the Dr. Nimmrichter Memorial Tournament will be remembered by all participating teams, spectators, and sports enthusiasts as a unique event. Satisfied participants, who congratulated the organizing team on the great tournament and expressed their desire to return in 2024, are the greatest and best confirmation for the organizer. The sporting highlight from the organizer’s perspective is the 1-1 draw between NSG Leonhofen and FC Everton.
